Sun Valley Resort

Sun Valley Resort is the first destination ski resort in the United States
It was founded in 1936 by W. Averell Harriman, who also founded Union Pacific Railroad
The world’s first chairlift was installed at Sun Valley in December 1936
During World War II, Sun Valley served as a training site for 10th Mountain Division soldiers and hosted celebrities such as Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and Ernest Hemingway
In 1964, Sun Valley became part of the KSL Capital Partners portfolio of resorts and hotels when it acquired majority ownership from The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company LLC
Today, the resort offers year round amenities including skiing (alpine & nordic), snowboarding, golfing (2 championship courses), hiking/biking trails, tennis courts, swimming pools and hot tubs as well as lodging options ranging from luxury to budget friendly accommodations
